Test factory based on HP Quality Center is available for all SBB projects
When it came to the complex and systematic implementation of the software quality management program, SBB called upon the Swiss Application Lifecycle Management consulting company beteo. SBB is utilizing HP Quality Center in its test environment, where standardized test procedures and consistent test management can now dramatically reduce software-related risks and improve testing efficiency.
The Swiss federal railway company SBB runs a software testing department within its IT organization. This “test factory” is responsible for testing in-house and commissioned development projects. To ensure that the applications can be tested efficiently, completely, and traceably, SBB turned to the Swiss Application Lifecycle Management consulting company beteo for assistance in implementing HP Quality Center. beteo has comprehensive and specialized experience in change management and thus also in testing in the area of software development.
For Bruno Linder, head of SBB’s test factory, implementation of HP Quality Center was smooth thanks to beteo. “Within a total period of about a year, SBB and beteo were able to optimally support the processes conducted in the SBB test factory.” Reliable, efficient tests are the norm these days and selected procedures minimize project and test costs. “We were able to quickly draw benefits from the new tools and expand the test method commensurately with the opportunities presented by the HP Quality Center,” added Linder.
The standardized software testing concept that SBB successfully carried out in a test lab is a model for other companies, according to Marco Genussi, head of consulting at beteo. “In this case, a standard for conducting tests was executed, and it featured manageable costs and a reliable project methodology.” This approach can be used for all change processes associated with in-house and commissioned development projects as well as for testing new standard software functionalities and importing patches. Particularly when it comes to the re-utilization of test concepts in software-related change management, there is tremendous IT optimization potential that few companies have tapped to date.
